About
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Leona partners with startups, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to design and improve HR systems and processes with technology, creativity, and heart.
An HR mastermind passionate about cybersecurity and end-user experience, her approach to the moments that matter along the employee journey is one that encourages compliance and good digital citizenship.
In collaboration with legal, marketing, and technology operations, she loves to take on work with the potential to transform and optimize the people and culture experience.
If you're looking for a clever, creative thinker with a deep understanding of business process and operational risk who can confidently and effectively translate technical concepts into clear guidance for non-technical audiences, Leona might be the droid you're looking for.
"When I was little I wanted to be a teacher.
Although I didn’t pursue a career in education, I do my best work when I can connect people with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to be well and successful at work."
When she’s not at work…
You’ll find her at the dog park, the bookstore, or working on her latest home improvement project. She’s a total nerd for non-fiction and will not say no to a good meal in the company of family and friends.
Professional Practice
Leona started her HR career in 2006, completed a Certificate in Human Resources Management in 2009 (MRU), and achieved her professional designation in 2010 (CPHR AB). In 2024, she became a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD, UK).
Having spent her entire career ‘HR-ing at Layer 8’ (where the firewall won’t save you!) she has recently earned the ISC2 Certification in Cybersecurity (CC) and is currently a cohort member of the 2025/26 Emerging Leaders in Cyber Initiative (ELCI) Catalyst program at Toronto Metropolitan University.
She thrives at the intersection of people, process, and technology. Be it designing a digital employee handbook, leading a full-scale benefits provider change, or developing customized training for hiring managers, Leona’s approach seeks to gather inputs from multiple sources — business goals, employee feedback, legislative requirements, and operational constraints — and translate them into clear, actionable tools that drive results. Her ability to connect disparate pieces of information into cohesive solutions is what transforms good intentions into real impact.
As a consultant and HR aficionado, she helps organizations with almost every HR situation you can imagine, including project work focusing on HRIS and payroll system implementation, process optimization, manager coaching and training, group benefits renewals, leaves and disability management, termination of employment, policy manual creation, and more.
