About
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Leona partners with startups, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to design and improve HR systems and process with technology, creativity, and heart.
Obsessed with end-user experience, she is blindly optimistic about the possibilities to create positive impact and culture-enhancement along the employee journey.
She collaborates with brilliant professionals in legal, marketing, and technology to transform and optimize the people and culture experience for her clients.
"When I was little I wanted to be a teacher. Although I didn’t pursue a career in education, I do my best work when I can connect people with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to be well and successful at work."
When she’s not at work…
You’ll find her at the dog park, the bookstore, or working on her latest home improvement project. She’s a total nerd for non-fiction and will not say no to a good meal in the company of family and friends.
Professional Practice
Leona started her HR career in 2006, completed a Certificate in Human Resources Management in 2009 (MRU), and achieved her professional designation in 2010 (CPHR AB). In 2024, she became a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD, UK)
She thrives at the intersection of people, process, and technology. Be it designing a digital employee handbook, leading a full-scale benefits provider change, or developing customized training for hiring managers, Leona’s approach seeks to gather inputs from multiple sources — business goals, employee feedback, legislative requirements, and operational constraints — and translate them into clear, actionable tools that drive results. Her ability to connect disparate pieces of information into cohesive solutions is what transforms good intentions into real impact.
As a consultant, she has helped her clients with HRIS and payroll system implementation, process optimization, manager coaching and training, group benefits renewals, leaves and disability management, termination of employment, payroll, policy manual creation, and more.
